Veterans Medical Transportation Newsletter | 2026
Topic: Free Medical Transportation for Veterans
Rabbitcares, the charitable arm of Rabbittransit, focuses on helping community members access public transportation by understanding their needs. For many people in our community, especially our veterans, a ride is more than getting from one place to another. It helps them stay independent, get to important appointments, and feel connected. Veterans served our country, and we want to ensure our community can serve them.
This is why Rabbitcares offers free medical transportation for eligible veterans across Adams, Columbia, Cumberland, Franklin, Montour, Northumberland, and York Counties. By applying to rabbittransit’s Paratransit/Shared Ride program, eligible veterans can schedule medical trips to regional VA medical centers and outpatient clinics throughout Central Pennsylvania and beyond. These trips are made possible through partnerships with county Veterans Affairs offices and local agencies.
Veterans are encouraged to apply before they need a ride. Being approved ahead of time helps ensure that a reliable transportation option is already in place when plans change or additional support is needed. All Shared Ride trips require a reservation. Veterans can schedule a trip by calling 1-800-632-9063 and selecting option 3. Reservations for medical appointments may be made in advance, and all vehicles are ADA-accessible. Escorts may ride with riders when needed.
Applications can be downloaded and mailed to rabbittransit at 415 N. Zarfoss Drive, York, PA 17404; or 901 N. Cameron Street, Harrisburg, PA 17101. For more information, visit https://www.rabbittransit.org/services/veterans-transportation/.
This program helps veterans get the care they need without worrying about how they will get there. It is one way our community can give back to the people who have already given so much. If you would like to help support this cause, you can donate at https://www.rabbittransit.org/product/veterans-transportation-fund/.

All Montour County community members, business owners, and stakeholders are invited to attend the public meeting to get involved in the Comprehensive Plan planning process.
Montour County, PA — Next week, a series of public meetings will be held for the ongoing Montour County Comprehensive Plan Update project titled, Montour County: Forging the Future. Both meetings will be held on the same day, Tuesday, September 30, 2025. The first meeting will be held from 3:00–5:00 PM in the Montour County Administration Center Gymnasium (435 E. Front Street, Danville, PA) and the second will be held from 6:00–8:00 PM at Delong Memorial Hall (1129 Third Street, Washingtonville, PA). Both meetings will be an open-house format, meaning attendees can come and go as their schedule allows. All meetings are free and open to the public.
The purpose of these public meetings is to collect thoughts and ideas about the future of Montour County. The County updates its comprehensive plan every decade with the aim of identifying priorities for County investment, establishing development goals, and outlining a strategic roadmap to deliver on priorities.
Montour County: Forging the Future is guided by a 25-member steering committee, made up of stakeholders from across the municipality. The Committee kicked off the project in May of this year, launched a county-wide survey in July, and is now hosting a series of public meetings and focus groups to collect input from residents.
Everyone is encouraged to visit the project website to learn more and sign up for email updates about upcoming activities including pop-up events, interactive open houses, and additional input opportunities:
